SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / – Samsung Electronics introduced its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London, unveiling three new devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean technology giant showcased updated hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI platforms across all models. This announcement marks the official debut of the Ultra variant within Samsung’s foldable device lineup, aimed at enterprise users, featuring a record-thin foldable profile of 4.1 millimeters when unfolded and a weight of 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a newly redesigned form factor, weighing 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone in Samsung’s product history. It sports a 10:16 aspect ratio cover display and a 4:3 aspect ratio main screen, allowing seamless adaptation to various content types including browsing, reading, and video playback. Both screens utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster technology. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the device is equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery.

To enhance structural robustness while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display architecture for its premium foldable models. This design combines a titanium-alloy film with an underlying titanium support plate to absorb impact, evenly distribute mechanical tension, and minimize visible creases over numerous folding cycles. The hinge, magnetic force, and display tension have been recalibrated to ensure smoother opening and closing actions. Outdoor visibility is improved thanks to a low-reflection finish that preserves vibrant colors even in high ambient light conditions.

    Next-Level Hardware and Productivity Features

The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra expands its screen real estate to an 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display along with a 6.5-inch cover screen. Designed for intensive multitasking and media production, the Ultra model features a 200-megapixel main camera sensor with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto module. For professional mobile videography, it supports 8K video recording using the APV codec and includes Cine LUT color management tools for advanced video editing workflows.

The internal hardware of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra incorporates an expanded graphite cooling structure to improve heat dissipation during demanding tasks. It runs on a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery supported by a 45W dual-path fast-charging system designed to efficiently distribute power across both cells. Users can choose configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, all operating on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Features and Market Launch

In addition to the larger foldable devices, Samsung introduced the compact Galaxy Z Flip8, which measures 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighs 180 grams. This clamshell device features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main display, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldable models come with software features powered by AI tools developed in collaboration with Google, including Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, which facilitate background workflows, summarize complex files, and enhance app navigation.

Availability for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series begins with global pre-orders immediately after the Unpacked event, with retail store distribution starting on August 7, 2026. The base model starts at $1,899.99, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 feature updated hardware pricing across various regional markets. The launch underscores Samsung’s strategy to broaden foldable device adoption across both premium consumer and enterprise mobility segments worldwide.
