BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a meeting held in Berlin, the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The agenda focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, economic partnership, and development initiatives. The officials also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace efforts, and global security concerns. This dialogue took place in the context of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

Discussions between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored avenues to bolster the strategic alliance between the UAE and Germany across multiple sectors. Significant emphasis was placed on economic cooperation and developmental collaborations. Additionally, they shared perspectives on international matters and diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing crises. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the strong relationship and history of collaboration between the two nations across political and economic domains.

The Berlin talks coincided with an expansion of the formal framework governing the UAE-Germany relationship. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders announced the launch of a Strategic Dialogue that will address issues including security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The dialogue also encompasses digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, culture, and education, broadening the scope of regular governmental exchanges.

Economic cooperation broadens under strategic alliance

Both governments expressed support for establishing a German-UAE Investment Council as part of their broader strategy to deepen ties between public institutions and private sector entities in both countries. Officials welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and highlighted the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The ongoing visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda of understanding, amounting to over 9.356 billion euros, as noted in the joint government statement.

Economic dialogues also covered areas such as energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration emphasized cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also outlined plans for developing advanced data centers with a capacity of around one gigawatt. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as new focus areas for bilateral projects, in addition to existing efforts in investment and industrial collaboration.

Focus on diplomacy and regional stability persists

Regional and global developments were also addressed by Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul during their discussions. Their dialogue included international endeavors to promote peace, stability, and security. The agenda also covered diplomatic strategies for managing crises peacefully. It is noteworthy that the German government had previously recognized Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ meeting within a wider diplomatic framework in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the discussions between the two foreign ministers. The talks connected foreign policy priorities with the economic and developmental themes discussed throughout the state visit. These discussions built on earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The latest meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, reaffirming economic cooperation, investment, and diplomatic ties as central pillars of the relationship.
