ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan has once again raised petrol prices on October 6, building upon the increase announced three days prior. The latest revision saw petrol prices climb by Rs0.88 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel experienced a decrease of Rs1.88, now costing Rs397.76 per litre. This adjustment followed the price hikes on October 3, when petrol reached Rs392.76 and diesel was at Rs399.64. The new rates replaced those levels for the October 6 pricing period.

Pakistan fuel prices diverge as petrol rises, diesel falls
Pakistan fuel prices move in opposite directions after the latest petroleum revision.

The October 3 revision resulted in a Rs2.10 increase in petrol, rising from Rs390.66 per litre, while high-speed diesel increased by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division attributed these changes to fluctuations in international fuel prices and other pricing components, including benchmark rates, premiums, and associated costs. The country’s fuel pricing system also incorporates applicable taxes and duties, with the federal government currently collecting Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.

The adjustment on October 6 caused diesel prices to move in a different direction, while petrol continued its upward trend. Petrol increased by an additional Rs0.88 from the October 3 level, whereas diesel dropped by Rs1.88 after its smaller rise three days earlier. Comparing with October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while high-speed diesel is Rs1.58 lower over the same period. This latest revision widened the price gap between the two major transport fuels sold across Pakistan.

Frequent Fuel Price Adjustments Due to Daily System

Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing mechanism in July after previously using weekly revisions earlier this year. This system enables domestic prices to respond more promptly to fluctuations in international markets. As a result, fuel prices can fluctuate daily, with petrol and diesel sometimes moving in opposite directions during the same update. The October 6 revision clearly demonstrated this pattern, with petrol prices increasing while diesel prices declined. The Petroleum Division continues to announce the revised rates for each pricing period accordingly.

Despite recent hikes, fuel prices are still significantly below their peak levels of 2026. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel climbed to Rs520.35 per litre during that period. In early March, petrol traded near Rs266 per litre, with diesel close to Rs281. At the October 6 update, petrol remains Rs64.77 below its April high, while diesel is Rs122.59 lower than its peak. These figures indicate a substantial decline from earlier this year’s highs.

Petrol and Diesel Play Key Roles in Transportation

Petrol is extensively used by cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan, whereas high-speed diesel is predominantly consumed by trucks, buses, generators, and other commercial machinery. As a result, fluctuations in their prices impact different sectors of the transportation and energy sectors. Both fuels’ prices are vital to consumers and businesses because fuel expenses directly influence daily operational costs. The federal government continues to impose duties and taxes on both products as part of the national petroleum pricing framework.

As of October 6, petrol is priced at Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is at Rs397.76 per litre. These rates replace the previous rates of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 announced on October 3. The latest adjustment adds Rs0.88 to petrol and reduces diesel by Rs1.88. This pattern of frequent revisions under the daily pricing system continues, with the October 3 increase serving as the base point for the latest movement. The revised rates set the current retail prices, reflecting ongoing market adjustments.
