Seattle, Washington / RankWire.AI / – On Wednesday, the specialty coffee giant Starbucks Corporation announced its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings, exceeding Wall Street forecasts in both earnings and comparable store sales. Market disclosures indicated that Starbucks shares surged following signs that efforts to regain third place are bearing fruit, with the 2026 outlook showing improvement and shares climbing more than five percent in after-hours trading on the Nasdaq. The company based in Seattle reported consolidated net revenues of $9.3 billion for the 13-week period ending June 28, 2026, driven by an 8.1 percent increase in North American store sales and ongoing margin growth across global operations.

Global comparable store sales rose 7.9 percent year-over-year during this quarter, supported by a 4.2 percent uptick in customer transaction volume and a 3.5 percent rise in average ticket size. Within the U.S. domestic market, comparable store sales grew 7.9 percent, aided by steady foot traffic recovery and optimized morning service efficiency. Non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share reached $0.85, comfortably surpassing analyst consensus expectations of $0.65, according to Yahoo Finance data providers. The GAAP operating margin widened by 60 basis points to 10.5 percent, benefiting from sales leverage, operational supply chain improvements, and tariff duty refunds during the period.

The robust quarterly results reflect progress made through the company’s turnaround strategy, which emphasizes seating ambiance, beverage service speed, and hospitality standards. In the international segment, comparable store sales increased by 5.7 percent, driven by higher average ticket values and positive transaction counts across licensed markets in Europe and the Middle East. Overall, net revenues dipped by 1 percent to $9.3 billion, mainly due to the restructuring of retail operations in China into a licensed joint venture model during the third quarter. North American operating income grew to $1.0 billion from $918.7 million last year, supported by menu innovation and reduced order delays that enhanced store throughput.

Starbucks Reports Robust Third Quarter Earnings Outperforming Expectations

With four consecutive quarters of comparable store sales growth and two straight quarters of operating margin expansion, leadership has raised full-year financial projections. The updated guidance forecasts fiscal 2026 non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share between $2.55 and $2.65, representing a 10 percent increase from earlier estimates of $2.25 to $2.45. Bloomberg’s market analysis indicates that global comparable store sales are now expected to grow nearly 6.0 percent for the year, with the U.S. fourth-quarter growth projected at 6.5 percent or higher.

During an investor webcast, Starbucks’ Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol remarked that the third-quarter success underscores the company’s focus on coffee excellence and customer experience. Niccol highlighted that operational efforts across global stores are bearing fruit, with quarterly metrics confirming positive momentum in enhancing store ambiance and drive-thru performance. CFO Cathy Smith added that disciplined expense management and top-line growth provided clarity to elevate the full-year outlook, with full-year consolidated operating margin expected to exceed 11.0 percent.

Third Quarter Adjusted Earnings Outperform Analyst Expectations

Throughout the quarter, the company continued its disciplined expansion of the store network, opening 175 net new locations worldwide to reach a total of 41,304 stores. Currently, 33 percent of these are company-operated, while 67 percent are licensed across domestic and international markets. Financial disclosures confirm that Starbucks’ stock gains are linked to successful efforts to improve prospects for third place, with institutional investors responding favorably to capital strategies that include consistent quarterly dividends, targeted store renovations, and technology investments.

As the fiscal year approaches its final quarter, analysts anticipate ongoing focus on menu simplification and equipment upgrades to sustain store throughput improvements. The strong third-quarter outcomes reinforce the coffee chain’s operational trajectory, positioning the global business to meet its heightened financial goals for the full fiscal year.
