ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – The International Fund for Houbara Conservation has unveiled a new support scheme for Emirati houbara breeders during ADIHEX 2026. Known as the Houbara Breeders Support Initiative, it aims to assist existing breeding operations and those planning to establish new facilities. The program provides specialized training, technical advice, and access to experienced breeding experts. It also stipulates standards concerning animal welfare, biosecurity, and responsible management of breeding sites.
Participation in the initiative requires breeders to undergo a formal registration and evaluation process. Prospective applicants must pass an assessment before final approval is granted. Registration alone does not guarantee acceptance, and only those who satisfy the initiative’s conditions will receive support. This process enables experts to evaluate each applicant’s readiness and pinpoint areas needing additional training or technical aid.
Ekthar Wildlife Development will oversee the program’s implementation and manage its scientific and technical elements. The organization acts as a strategic partner for IFHC projects, centers, and initiatives both in the UAE and internationally. Its responsibilities include facilitating the program’s practical execution and coordinating services for participating breeders. The official launch occurred during the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.
Targeted training enhances breeding standards
Selected breeders and their teams will undergo expert training through Abu Dhabi Nature Academy. The curriculum includes courses and workshops focused on responsible houbara breeding, animal welfare, biosecurity measures, and facility management. The training also covers operational procedures used in managed breeding programs. Those who complete the necessary courses can earn certification, while specialists will continue offering technical support throughout the initiative.
Participants who meet the criteria may also be granted breeding birds through a right to use agreement after completing assessments and training. This support complements the program’s educational and technical assistance components. IFHC crafted the initiative to give breeders access to knowledge stemming from its extensive conservation efforts. It combines breeder evaluation, formal education, and ongoing support within a unified participation framework.

With over forty years of experience, the International Fund for Houbara Conservation has been involved in breeding, research, release, and conservation projects for the species. Its efforts have spanned initiatives within the UAE and collaborations across native range countries. The new breeder-focused program channels this technical expertise into a structured scheme for private breeders, emphasizing clear welfare, biosecurity, and training standards.
Breeders can register via the Houbara Breeders Support Initiative portal or through the IFHC and Ekthar’s presence at ADIHEX 2026. The event takes place at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi from August 28 to September 6. After registering, applicants must undergo an assessment before being accepted into the program. Those who qualify will then gain access to training, technical support, and eligible breeding birds according to the program’s established participation conditions.
