EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – A five-year wheat supply deal valued at up to US$500 million has been officially activated between the UAE and Egypt. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will deliver imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under this arrangement. The financing for these purchases is provided through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023, establishing specific terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.
The signing ceremony took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters located in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk participated in the signing as GASC chairman. Also present was Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. Officials did not disclose the volume of wheat covered by the agreement, nor did they reveal details about delivery schedules, shipment origins, annual purchase targets, or the pricing methodology for individual transactions.
This new arrangement builds upon a financing scheme announced by both nations in August 2023. As part of that framework, ADEX extended a revolving US$100 million financing facility for wheat and other vital commodities. This facility was designed for annual renewal over a five-year span, potentially reaching a total of US$500 million. Ministries of Finance and International Cooperation in Egypt collaborated with GASC during the initial setup. The current agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat through that existing financing structure.
Framework Extends into Wheat Procurement Phase
ADEX operates as the export-financing arm of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 deal with Egyptian authorities encompassed wheat and other essential commodities supplied via Al Dahra. Its revolving nature allowed the financing to be renewed annually during the five-year period. The new supply agreement does not establish an additional US$500 million credit line but rather provides the commercial framework enabling GASC to purchase imported wheat from Al Dahra using the financing already arranged through ADEX.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations in Egypt, including farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government during the previous three years. At that time, Al Dahra noted that about 85% of its Egyptian farm output entered the local market. The company currently manages an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets globally.
Imported Wheat Procurement Continues Under ADEX Financing
The agreement signed in El Alamein pertains specifically to imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as the country’s largest private-sector wheat and corn producer. Consequently, this new pact relates to an independent import route supported by UAE export financing. GASC remains the Egyptian authority responsible for procurement under this scheme. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has revealed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered under the five-year agreement.
The total value remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, as per the framework established in 2023. The parties have not disclosed an annual shipment schedule, the countries supplying the imported wheat, nor the pricing formula for each purchase. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement connects Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program and marks the operational start of the five-year arrangement.
